Elderly man injured in morning accident

Published Wednesday, August 27, 2008

An elderly man injured during a collision with a dump truck Wednesday morning is in Sentara Norfolk General Hospital with serious injuries, said city spokeswoman Debbie George.

The man, whose name was not available at press time, was airlifted to the Norfolk hospital after the accident on West Constance Road around 10:40 a.m.

The victim, driving a 1994 Chevrolet pickup west out of the McDonald's parking lot, pulled out in front of a Kenworth dump truck that was fully loaded with rock, according to Suffolk police investigators. The dump truck hit the pickup, causing the pickup to run off the left side of the road, sideswipe a utility pole and hit a tree.
