A bulldozer prepares to clean up the spilled contents of a tractor-trailer that wrecked Monday morning on U.S. Route 58 near Buckhorn Drive
Route 58 wreck snarls Monday traffic
Published Monday, December 14, 2009
A two-vehicle accident on U.S. Route 58 on Monday morning sent at least one victim to the hospital and snarled traffic along the highway for most of the day.
The driver of a tractor-trailer that was involved in the accident was transported to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital with unspecified injuries, according to a city spokesperson.
All four lanes were closed as a result of the wreck, which occurred around 7 a.m. at the intersection of U.S. Route 58 and Buckhorn Drive. By 10 a.m., police had opened one lane in each direction.
Suffolk spokesperson Debbie George said in a message Monday evening that the trailer was finally removed from the road at about 4 p.m., but one-lane traffic in each direction continued into the evening, as emergency workers finished cleaning up the scene.
Neither driver has been identified, and charges were not available on Monday morning. George said the driver of the tractor-trailer was in stable condition at Norfolk General.
