Never forget the sacrifices veterans made

Published Friday, November 6, 2009

As a proud Vietnam veteran and Commander of VFW Post 9382 in Suffolk, I find it tragic that so many of my fellow Americans view Nov. 11 as just another day off work.

I lost friends in Vietnam, and I made a promise that they would never be forgotten.

We ask that you call one of our local VFW posts to take part in our ceremonies. Please keep our deployed troops and their families in your prayers. Donate to VFW programs that help our defenders, deployed and at home.

I found this to be fitting of the day..

“God, thank you for veterans living and to those who have paid the ultimate sacrifice in all American conflicts Bless veterans and their families of World War II. Lord, have mercy. Bless veterans and their families of the Korean War.Lord, have mercy. Bless veterans and their familes of the Vietnam War. Lord, have mercy. Bless veterans of the Gulf Wars and their families.Lord, have mercy. Bless veterans and their families of Afghanistan. Lord, have mercy.Without their sacrifice, we would not be.
"May the light of Your love continue to shine in the lives of all United States Armed Services veterans and their families, that they might heal in body, mind, and spirit and know that others’ remember them this Veteran’s Day. Lord, have mercy. Amen.”
