The cost of doing nothing is too high

Published Friday, November 20, 2009

To the editor:

The House of Representatives recently passed H.R. 3962, the Affordable Health Care for America Act.

For those are pro-life, they should be the most dedicated advocates to this bill, as it saves the lives of children outside of the womb. For those who enjoy their current health care plan, it shouldn't matter to you, because you can keep your existing plan.

For those concerned about the cost of the plan, I ask, where was your sense of fiscal responsibility over the last eight years? More importantly, what is the cost involved if nothing is done?

For those who see the ads and believe all of the unsubstantiated claims, remember who is sponsoring them. Finally for those who worry about socialized medicine, ask yourselves this question: Do you want to government to take away Medicaid?

This is what Obama will do to push Reids plan thru. Remember he Obama has no plan but told us all he did. Obama is no Jerry Lewis who exploits sick children...why didnt Obama use his kids in the video? He uses others to get what he wants, as Pastor Manning says he is a long legged mack daddy.

I really am tired of the Democrats and President Obama saying "if you currently have employer provided health insurance, you can keep it under our plan". People need to wake up here. Its not up to the government to say if you can keep your insurance. Under the Democratic plan, if it's cheaper for your employer to pay a fine than provide you with health insurance, they're going to drop your insurance like a hot potato. This so called health care reform stands to be a disaster for those of us who have company provided health care not to mention the obvious tax increases that will be needed to pay for it, plus the cuts to medicare that will impact our elderly citizens who need insurance coverage the most.

Mr. Camp . . . there is no doubt that something has to be done. Outrageous government waste, mismanagement and insurance fraud (by doctors and patients) has drained this country and driven health care premiums skyhigh.

The current solution that you court where the federal government demands that I cover my employees or be fined is unconstitutional and down-right illegal. Economists across the country have not endorsed the different health care bills that have been submitted. The Democrats have taken the strategy that over time they will wear down the public and eventually the public will either cry "uncle" or just lose interest in the debate. The Republicans had both houses of Congress and the White House for a number of years and did absolutely nothing. For that behavior I have taken the priviledge of not voting by party but rather for the candidate who best respresents the well-being of just not the Commonwealth but the entire country. The plans offered will not work and will only break this country.

By the way, I am very fiscally conservative, believe in capitalism and free enterprise, and often write our representatives to voice my displeasure and occassionally offer "kudos". On the other hand, most proponents of the health care bill are supporting the bill as a "feel good" solution or there are those just looking for a free ride.
