What is this?
Suffolk needs free parking for handicapped
Published Wednesday, October 21, 2009
Now that election time is just around the corner for some city officials, perhaps they should address the issue of handicap parking.
I feel that handicapped individuals should not have to worry about timed parking. I have seen many handicapped people leaving the doctor’s office to move their cars. Once they return, they are winded, and this could cause an elevated blood pressure reading.
I am also referring to the city parking lot on E. Washington Street. Other cities in Hampton Roads have unlimited parking for their handicapped residents.
Remember, these individuals vote in large numbers. See you at the polls.

I think Suffolk needs a parking garage. That way, the City can still generate revenue while having plenty of parking spaces for the downtown area. Courthouse parking has been a problem since the doors opened in 1998.

On just about about every shopping adventure, I am guaranteed to witness a person parking in a handicap space and literally dance their way into the store. It really p.o.'s me. The example has the proper plates and/or the mirror hanger so I figure it's probably a spouse or maybe some other relative. My point is, humans are naturally lazy and always look for the easiest route to their goal. My point is, stop taking advantage of a loved one's handicap! What happens if you take the last handicap space?

I LIKE WHEN THEY PARK IN HANDICAP W/O THE REQUIRED PLACCARD OR LICENSE PLATE. THAT'S WHEN I GET ON THE PHONE & CALL OUR MEN/WOMEN IN BLUE. I AM HANDICAPPED & I KNOW HOW FUSTRATING IT IS TO SEE AN ABLE BODIED PERSON JUST "RUN" IN FOR SOMETHING QUICK! I WOULD GIVE MY RIGHT N@@ (IF I HAD THEM) TO "RUN". YES , IT SHOULD BE UNLIMITED FOR HANDICAPPED. GOOD OBSERVATION MS. RAWLES!

In theory...that would be great! But...sadly, we are a lazy society. How many times have you watched an able body jump out of their handicap parking space at Wal-Mart and you just wished you had the authority to write them a ticket...or tap 'em with your bumper? (jk) Parking is an issue for everyone- but so is just being worthless. The parking police out there going after old ladies unloading donations would have a field day with these slackers!
