Former Virginia state champion Chris Copeland (Lakeland), here during a meet in his senior season at Todd Stadium, won the NCAA Div. II national championship in the high jump in Albuquerque, N.M. with St. Augustine’s College. Mar. 12-13. Copeland set a personal record in winning the national title, clearing 7-feet-0.5.

Firing it in: Lakeland pitcher Vici Treat fires to the plate during Friday’s Southeastern District game against Grassfield. Grassfield broke open a close game with seven runs in the fifth inning, largely thanks to four Lakeland errors in the inning, and went on to a 13-2 win.
