Rotary meeting 9/13

Published Friday, September 12, 2008

This morning I had a Rotary meeting for the North Suffolk club (They are every Friday, at 7:30 a.m. at Cedar Point Country Club). Capt. Jim Judkins was our guest speaker for the day. He spoke all about Hurricane Preparedness, making the decision on staying in your home/business versus evacuating and the plans the city has in case of emergency.

What I found out though was that the city of Suffolk has in Kings Fork High School the only generator-backed emergency shelter in the state capable of housing about 1,000 medically dependent residents safely. Pretty cool.

Having been in Hampton Roads my entire life, it feels like we sometimes overkill the whole Hurricane Preparedness idea. But, you know, with weekends like these coming on in Texas, it's better to be too much on the safe side.

Thoughts?

Does Capt.Judkins speak at all Rotary meetings,or does this section of the paper need to be brought up to date.Surely someone else speaks from time to time.Other wise, this article or It's writer or Capt Judkins will be up for retirement soon.
