Published Sunday, September 7, 2008

What do you think? Should the city work hard to get the CenterPoint project? Why or why not?

Absolutely the city should work hard to make the project feasible for the citizens of Suffolk. The city should not bear a majority of the burden that the project will place on Rt. 58 and utilities. It is my opinion that this project will not only benefit our city but the rest of the state and most importantly the Virginia Port Authority. Thus, the developer, the Commonwealth (Richmond) and the VPA should make a significant contribution to the construction of the project.

If the city is west of the port area, common sense to me, would be find the land to the east of the city. it would help in keeping the truck traffic out of the city and keep it off the bypass. Try 58 east it isnt loaded with business and or subdivisions, or is it that the powerbrokers and yes maybe some city adminstrators dont own any of the land out that way? Mr Jiggy is right the VPA has more money than the city, the VPA has more clout than the city, the VPA is run much bettter than the city.
