A 16-year-old Troy resident has been arrested by Troy Police for breaking in and attempting to rob Diamond Mystique Jewelry on Brundidge Street in Troy.

On September 4, police responded to an alarm at the business at about 4:50 a.m. On arrival, they found that the front door appeared as if it had "been kicked in," said Troy Police Chief Anthony Everage.

The officers also noticed that a jewelry display case had been damaged, but were unsure of what was taken from the business.

Upon further investigation, officers located two subjects near the business and upon approaching them, one fled and was apprehended.

The two suspects were taken to the Troy Police Department where police discovered that one of the suspects had committed the burglary, Everage said.

No jewelry was discovered on either of the two suspects.

The 16-year-old who is being held for the crime was tried as an adult for a crime he committed on September 1, said Sgt. Bennie Scarbrough, administrative assistant to the chief of police of Troy.

"We cannot release his name at this time due to his status as a juvenile," Scarbrough said.

The juvenile is being held in the Pike County Jail.

Everage said the arrest reflects good work and quick response time on the part of his third shift officers.

"They did an outstanding job," he said.
