Walter Baker

Walter Baker, 69, a son of the late Mary and Ashley Baker, quietly slipped from this life on Tuesday, July 2, 2002, in Maryview Medical Center, Portsmouth.

A native of Portsmouth, he was the founder and owner of M&W Drywall and Plastering Co.

He made a difference in the community by providing many with job opportunities to become skilled tradesmen.

He was a member of Zion Tabernacle Baptist Church of Corapeake, N.C., where he served with his wife of 39 years, Marion J. Baker.

His memory will also be cherished by two sons, Walter Baker Jr. of Norfolk, and Linwood Morris of Newport News; four daughters, Beverly Jackson, and husband, Reginald, of Alexandria, Diane Bumpers and Lesa Scott, both of Chesapeake, and Karen Weathers, and husband, Jahamal, of Virginia Beach; two brothers, Ashley Baker and Robert Baker, and wife, Eloise, of Portsmouth; 14 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; one uncle; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

The funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday in Zion Tabernacle Baptist Church, Corapeake, by the Rev. William Norman. Interment will be in the family cemetery.

The family will receive visitors at 304 Paperbark Road, Chesapeake.

Robert L. Greene

Robert Louis Greene, 66, of Suffolk, died Thursday, July 4, 2002, in Obici Hospital.

Born on July 17, 1935 in Sunbury, N.C., he was a son of the late Vera Jordan and Tom Andrew Greene.

Mr. Greene was the owner and operator of Greene’s Motor Sales, a member of Liberty Spring Christian Church, and the Loyal Order of Moose Lodge No. 141.

He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Jeanine Greene; daughters, Cheryl G. Eason, and husband, Calvin, of Sunbury, and Sheila G. Hairsine, and husband, Tim, of Suffolk; sons, Robert Louis Greene Jr., and wife, Nancy, and Todd Andrew Greene, and wife, Melissa, all of Suffolk; sister-in-law, Sharon S. Toland, and her husband, David, of Suffolk; brother-in-law, Frank Matthews Jr., and wife, Katherine, of Chesapeake; nephew, Edward K. Tadlock Jr., and wife, Amie, of Suffolk; grandchildren, Daniel Louis Greene, Derek Shawn Greene, Elizabeth Ann Baker, and Timothy Bryan Hairsine II; sisters, Gladys Dotson of Chesapeake, Joyce Modlin and Lois Jordan, both of Sunbury; brothers, Dan Greene of Sunbury, Jack Greene and Norman Greene, both of Suffolk.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday in Liberty Spring Christian Church by the Rev. Sallye Hardy, the Rev. Roger Johnson, and the Rev. Dolan Talbert, with burial in Meadowbrook Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday in the R.W. Baker and Co. Funeral Home.
