Norman N. Bradshaw

Norman Nathaniel Bradshaw, 76, of Suffolk, died July 14, 2002, in Suffolk.

A native of Suffolk, he was the son of the late Louise W. and Floyd B. Bradshaw and brother of the late Marion B. Brinkley of Suffolk.

Mr. Bradshaw retired in 1987 from Virginia Power after 40 years of employment. He was a special project engineer, retiring as a senior service supervisor.

He was a member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, a charter member and past president of the Suffolk-Nansemond Chapter of the Izaak Walton League of America, a past member and president of the Rogers Deer Club, a member of the farmer’s Hunt Club in Wakefield, and Suffolk’s Virginia Power Retiree Club. In 2001 he received the Tobin Appreciation Award from the Izaak Walton League of America. He was an avid fisherman and hunter.

He graduated from Suffolk High School in 1944 and attended the College of William and Mary. He served in World War II as a chief radio officer in the United States Merchant Marines.

Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Vivian G. Bradshaw; three daughters and sons-in-law, Hope B. and Dr. J. Rawls Saecker of Accomac; Kaye B. and John L. Carpenter of Camden, N.C.; Norma B. and Kent B. Spain of Suffolk; six granddaughters, Karen E. Carpenter, Jessica C. Lathan, Sarah V. Carpenter, Lee B. Saecker, Elizabeth E. Spain and Ann Taylor Spain; a grandson, John R. Saecker Jr.; great-granddaughter, Kayla M. Carpenter; brother, Floyd B. Bradshaw Jr. of

Portsmouth; and three nieces including Virginia (Gin) B. Harrell.

The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church by the Rev. H. Vance Mann III and the Rev. James H. Newsom Jr.

Burial will be at 1:30 p.m. in Cedar Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends in the R.W. Baker and Co. Funeral Home from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Nansemond-Suffolk Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 1515, Suffolk, Va. 23439.

Norman D. Cox

Norman Dale Cox, 45, of Chesapeake, died Saturday, July 13, 2002.

He had been employed by Harvey’s Service Center as an auto mechanic.

Mr. Cox was preceded in death by his father, Willie Eugene Cox.

He is survived by his mother, Ruth G. Price; a son, Kevin Cox, and a daughter, Amanda Cox, both of Suffolk; one brother, Carroll Cox of Suffolk; and two sisters, Diane McKenzie of Virginia Beach, and Nancy Briggs of North Carolina.

The graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Nansemond-Suffolk Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Monday in Harrell and Hill Funeral Home.

Thomas L. Porter

Thomas L. &uot;Boot&uot; Porter, 35, of the 500 block of South Street, Franklin, died July 11, in Southampton Memorial Hospital.

A funeral will be held Monday, July 15, at New Olive Branch Baptist Church, 9354 Gates Rd., Suffolk,
