Kennedy in seclusion at resort home;
Greeted by estimated 50,000 souls
Hyannisport, Mass. (AP) – Sen. John F. Kennedy, the Democratic presidential nominee, sought seclusion today in this rock-ribbed Republican home of his youth after an overwhelming welcoming that almost brought tears to his eyes.
Kennedy flew back Sunday night from Lose Angeles, scene o the national convention victory. Police Chief Albert R. Hinckley estimate the crowd greeting him reaching 50,000 or more.
Whaleyville High students attend FBLA Meeting
Future Business Leaders of America held their Tenth Annual leadership conference at Massanette Springs, July 11-15. The theme of the conference was &uot;Students Today-Leaders Tomorrow.&uot;
Miss Elnora Overlay, business education instructor, Richmond Professional Institute, conducted a study of parliamentary law. Dr. Kenneth Zimmer, director, School of Business, Richmond Professional Institute, conducted a workshop on public speaking.
Safety contest won by Pine St. youth
Theodore Vincent of 239 Pine St., has been named local winner of the &uot;Mister Softee&uot; safety program contest.
Theodore’s entry was picked from 1,040 submitted by area youngsters by Claude Grandy, Nansemond County Justice of the peace, who acted as judge of the local contest.
New library volumes include fact, fiction
Fiction and fact are included in the latest purchase of books by the Morgan Memorial Library.
On the fiction side are such things as &uot;A novel of international suspense and intrigue…&uot; and &uot;An intriguing novel about a hospital…&uot;
Books of facts include the story of Dr. Tom Donley and a book on the World Council of Churches.
Output, income reach record high
Washington – The National output and income for 1959 should reach record levels, the government says in a new forecast.
The estimates announced Sunday night were 489 billion dollars for production and 400 billion dollars for income.
