The Local City Junior Championships will be held at Howard Mast Tennis Courts (behind Farm Fresh/Main Street) from July 22-26. The tournament is open to Suffolk residents, members of the Suffolk Tennis Association and those who attend school in Suffolk. Registration is $8 for singles, doubles, or mixed doubles. Local schools to hold fall sports meetings July 23

Nansemond River High Sch-ool will be holding a Fall Sports Information Meeting at 7 p.m. Tuesday, July 23 in the school auditorium. All parents and/or players interested in participating in fall sports should attend.

The school will also be offering free physicals for athletes at 5 p.m. on July 30. Physicals are mandatory for participation in school sports.

Lakeland will also be holding its Fall Sports Information Meeting at 7 p.m. on Tuesday. Parents and upcoming fall athletes can learn about such things as practice times, physical and insurance information, and other important fall sports news.

Liberty Golf Classic to be played Sept. 26

The Liberty Golf Classic will be held at the Nansemond River Golf Club on Sept. 26. Held to benefit Gideons International, a group that specializes in distributing Bibles in 175 countries worldwide, the tournament will begin at noon.

The cost is $75 per person, which includes a green fee, golf cart, driving range, snacks, drinks, and an open pit barbecue roast. Chipping and putting contests begin at 11 a.m. For more information, call 539-3511.
