DAA to hold football, cheering signups Aug. 5

Registration for the Down-town Athletic Association (DA-A) Titans football and cheerleading teams will be held from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Aug. 5 at Wellons Park

Boys and girls ages 5-11 are eligible to register. The cost is $55 for the first child and $45 for each additional child in the family. Children ages 5-7 are eligible to signup for flag football, and children ages 8-11 can sign up for Junior Pee-Wee ball.

Local Jazzercise program to hold Open Houses

The Suffolk Jazzercise program will be holding two free Open Houses in early August. The first one will be held at King’s Fork Recreation Center from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Aug. 5. The second will be held at Wilroy Baptist Church at 300 Williams Road from 6 to 8 p.m. on Aug. 6.

The original dance exercise phenomenon, the class blends jazz dancing and exercise science to help people get in shape while grooving to the music! It combines aerobics, yoga, Pil-ates, and other exercise techniques to build muscle and stamina.

Smithfield softball team to hold tryouts Sept. 14

A Smithfield select softball team for girls age 10 and under is being formed. Tryouts will be held at Nike Park on Sept. 7-8 at 2 p.m. for all positions except pitcher and catchers. Pitchers and catcher tryout will be at 2 p.m. Sept. 14 at Nike Park.

Tournament team selection will be made by Sept. 17.

Deadline for signing up for a free tryout is Aug. 30.

SYAA fall ball signups Aug. 3, 10

The Suffolk Youth Athletic Association (SYAA) will hold signups for fall baseball and softball from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Aug. 3 and Aug. 10 at Diamond Springs Park on Kings Fork Road. Boys and girls ages six and up are welcome.

Liberty Golf Classic to be played Sept. 26

The Liberty Golf Classic will be held at the Nansemond River Golf Club on Sept. 26. The tournament, held to benefit a group that hands out thousands of Bibles ever day, will begin at noon. The cost is $75 per person, which includes a green fee, golf cart, driving range, snacks, drinks, and an open pit barbecue roast.
