Erma Ray Vann Bell, 71, of Suffolk, died Saturday, Aug. 10, 2002.

Born on May 10, 1931 in Whaleyville, she was a daughter of the late Dempsey and Pearl Briley Vann.

She was predeceased by her son, Alan Wayne Blanchard, sister, Helen Vann; and brothers, Dempsey Jr., Vann and Otha Lee Vann.

Survivors include her daughters, Nancy Diane Johnson and Kay Jones, both of Hampton, and Debbie Reddington of Newport News; son, Gary Blanchard of Suffolk; sisters, Margaret Hoffman of Hampton, and Maybell Johnson and Selma Ellis, both of Suffolk; brother, J.W. Vann of Portsmouth; and nine grandchildren.

The funeral was conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the R.W. Baker & Co., Funeral Home by the Rev. Michael Brinkley, with burial in Holland Cemetery.

Waldo Glendell Swim, 76, of Windsor, died Saturday, Aug. 10, 2002.

The graveside service was held at 3 p.m. Tuesday in Windsor Cemetery.

R.W. Baker & Co. Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
