Payne R. Dungan

Payne Richard Dungan, 82, of Suffolk, died Monday, Aug. 19, 2002, at his home.

Born May 19, 1920, in Chilhowie, he was a son of the late Marvin Joseph and Mary Heath Dungan.

Mr. Dungan had retired from the Norfolk Naval Shipyard after 30 years as a welder, Atlantic Wood Industries in Portsmouth after 17 years of service, and the Riverside Metal Works after 15 years of service. He served in the Coast Guard during WWII and was a member of the American Legion.

Survivors include his wife, Margaret Carbaugh Dungan; sons and daughters-in-law, Joseph Allen and Peggy Dungan of Columbia, S.C., Thomas Glenn and Pat Dungan of Suffolk, Richard Edwin Dungan and his fiance, Terri Kotrady of North Clarendon, Vt.; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; sisters, Elizabeth Tilley of Wytheville, Fla., Louise McClung of West Palm Beach, Fla., Ada Powers of Uniontown, Pennsylvania, Polly Furr of Fredericksburg, Muriel Hopkins of Highland Springs, Nancy Sanders of Meridian, Miss.; and a brother, Sanders Dungan of Roanoke.

The graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday in Middle Fork Cemetery, Chilhowie. From 7 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday, the family will receive friends in the Williams Funeral Home of Chilhowie.

At 11:30 a.m. Monday, Aug. 26, a memorial service will be conducted in the Second Presbyterian Church on Hampton Boulevard, Norfolk, by the Rev. Dr. Steve Frazier.

Memorial donations may be made to the National Kidney Foundation, 1515 N. Military Highway, Norfolk, Va. 23502.

Nacy A. Evans Sr.

Nacy &uot;Tony&uot; Anthony Evans Sr., 47, of Suffolk, died Saturday, Aug. 17. He was born on Dec. 2, 1954 in Norfolk, and was a son of the late Alton P. Evans and Daphne M. Evans.

He was a Structural Shop supervisor for the U.S. Coast Guard Integrated Support Command, Portsmouth.

Survivors include his wife, Paula Woods Evans; sons, Nacy A. Evans Jr. and Derek P. Evans, both of Suffolk; brothers, Alton P. Evans and Don Evans, both of Chesapeake, John M. Evans and Timmy Evans, both of Norfolk, Dean R. Evans of Virginia Beach; a sister, Lillian E. Belter of Norfolk.

The graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Holly Lawn Cemetery with Commander Derek K. Ross, CHC, USN officiating.

The family will receive friends at the residence, 8533 Southwestern Blvd., Suffolk.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Lillian F. Jordan

Lillian Frances Jordan, 76, of Virginia Beach, died Saturday, Aug. 17, 2002. The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the R.W. Baker & Co. Funeral Home, with burial in Holly Lawn Cemetery.

Nathan C. Peace

Nathan Carroll Peace, 13, of 2096 Box Elder Road, Suffolk, died Saturday, Aug. 17, 2002, in the Children’s Hospital of the King’s Daughters.

He was a native of Suffolk and a student at Forest Glen Middle School.

He was a member of Holy Neck United Church of Christ, a member of the Holland Hunt Club and a Life Scout of the Boy Scouts of America Troop No. 30.

Survivors include his parents, David H. and Brenda G. Peace of Suffolk; sisters, Tabitha Peace and Kristi Peace of Suffolk; maternal grandparents, Norman and Emma Gardner of Suffolk; Paternal grandparents, Stuart and Nancy Peace of Suffolk; uncles, Whit Peace of Virginia Beach; Lorain and Kathy Gardner of Suffolk; three cousins; and several friends.

The funeral will beheld at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the Sidney F. Harrell Chapel of Harrell & Hill Funeral Home, with the Rev. Dolan Talbert officiating. Interment will be in Norfleet Family Cemetery, Box Elder Road.

Friends may join the family from 7-8 p.m. Tuesday in Harrell & Hill Funeral Home, and other times at the residence.
