Task force acted wisely

Congratulations to the Mayor-appointed Mattanock Town Task Force for unanimously recommending that the Nansemond Tribe’s proposed Indian cultural village be built at Lone Star Lakes.

Being the tribe’s ancestral land and the site of its annual powwow, it was the only logical choice.

What’s incredible is that city officials couldn’t see that from the start and had to appoint the task force in the first place.

Now it’s left to city council to act on the task force’s recommendation, which shouldn’t be any more than a procedural matter.

Council should act on the task force’s recommendation at its earliest convenience so that work can begin on building a real tourist attraction that will make Suffolk a primary destination and not merely a side trip for people going to Williamsburg and the beach.
