It’s fall and festivals abound, and one not-to-be-missed event takes place Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 26 -27, in the village of Driver. In fact, the members of Driver’s Volunteer Fire Department hope to meet many new friends and see a lot of familiar ones as they hold their &uot;Driver Days Fall Festival.&uot;

Driver’s Fire Chief Steve Moody serves as chairman of the festival, and he and members of the fire department have lined up quite a bit of unusual fun and entertainment for all ages.

&uot;Of course, we’ll have plenty of foods available, with Beech Grove Church holding a special Pancake Breakfast Saturday, Oct. 26 from 7 to 11 a.m., and a lot of food vendors with everything from turkey legs to hot dogs and other carnival type foods,&uot; said Moody. &uot;We’ve got a huge number of crafters coming, too, because crafts are always a big thing at this type of festival.&uot;

Driver Days is a big event in that small community, and on these special two days streets will be teaming with people in period costumes reminiscent of the Civil and Revolutionary wars. Other people visiting the little village to take part in activities.

Moody said the Classic Car Show is always a popular event and that takes place Saturday. On Sunday, motorcycle enthusiasts can enjoy the Motorcycle Show and Poker Run.

There will also be an encampment of Civil War soldiers and a Western Town complete with cowboys and a re-enactment.

The Korean Conflict will also be represented with a 50th anniversary observance and they will have a M.A.S.H. Unit set up for all to see.

Like any good festival event, Driver Days will also have rides of all types. Moody said there will wagon rides with mules serving as the horsepower, and horses will also provide a second avenue of transportation with carriage rides.

There will also be a steam engine demonstration and an exhibition of fire and rescue vehicles.

Kids and adults can show of their pets in a pet contest, and there will also be kiddy games, bake sales, cakewalks, and plenty of other activity to help raise funds for the Driver Volunteer Fire Department.

Local businesses will get into the festival spirit by offering special sales during the two-day event.
