Brothers Brock and Tyler Van Selow scored three of their team’s touchdowns as the Nansemond-Suffolk Academy (NSA) junior varsity team scored a 31-0 shutout over the visiting Downtown Eagles of Norfolk on Wednesday.

&uot;I was thinking that we’d pound them because they pounded us last year,&uot; said Brock, whose team fell 28-7 to the Eagles last October.

Brock opened the scoring on his team’s first drive, hurtling past the Eagle defense for a seven-yard touchdown just 90 seconds into the game. After the young Saints quickly regained the ball, he added to their lead with a 14-yard dash with 1:33 left in the first quarter.

The NSA defense held again, and Kyle Jett had a 65-yard touchdown punt return called back for clipping. Griffin Powell rushed six yards to the Saint 46, and a 25-yard strike from Jack Wright to Adam Gillette got the Saints to the Eagle 36.

The Van Selows then chopped off identical 18-yard runs, culminating in Tyler’s first score of the evening, a rush around the right end with 6:29 to play in the half.

After NSA got the ball back three minutes later, Wright and Gillette connected for an 18-yard pass to get to the Eagle 9. Jett and Powell churned off seven yards, and Wright hit Gillette again for the Saints’ fourth touchdown.

As the team faced a third-and-35 at midfield midway through the fourth quarter, Brock rumbled 15 yards around the right end, and a face-mask penalty netted the Saints another 15 yards, setting up a 17-yard touchdown by Ryland Gwaltney.

With 26 seconds left, Tyler scooped up an Eagle fumble at his team’s 33, and the Saints ran out the clock.
