Keep checking despite studies

You might have read in this paper (preferably) or seen the news on television about studies that indicate mammograms aren’t the cure-all for preventing breast cancer in women. In fact, you probably already knew that there’s no one thing which can put such a disease in check.

Such reports are subject to new scrutiny. and we suggest that since nothing has been irrefutably conclusive, then it’s still best to continue with regular check-ups.

Obici Hospital is doing its part to promote such an important health habit. Tonight from 6:30 to 8 o’clock, the facility is hosting a forum, &uot;Breast Cancer: Fears, Facts and Fiction.&uot; This will take place in the hospital’s garden level conference rooms B&C. Call at 934-4999 to make reservations for this program.

Local and area physicians will speak on topics related to breast cancer. Tours of the high-tech mammography and radiation oncology centers will be offered. Free breast exams are scheduled from 4 to 5:30 p.m. today, and will be done on a first-come, first-served basis. Call 934-4720 for details on this matter.

We encourage women and their spouses (men can also get breast cancer) to attend. The more education you have in this matter, the better prepared you can be to face the disease if it happens to you.
