Kyle Jett flew past Norfolk Academy (NA) for 266 yards and five touchdowns as the host Nansemond-Suffolk Academy (NSA) junior varsity team charged to a 34-6 victory over the Bulldogs to clinch the TCIS title on Tuesday evening. The Saints ended the 2002 season undefeated in the TCIS, at 4-0 (7-1 overall).

After neither team scored in the first quarter, Jett got the Saint offense going by returning a punt 50 yards to the Bulldog two, and scored on the next play. NA failed to make a first down, and Jett doubled his team’s lead with a 40-yard rush around the right end. The Saint defense fought off the Bulldogs again, and the ninth-grader scored on a 10-yard dash to end the first half.

Jett scored his fourth touchdown three minutes into the third quarter when he snatched an errant Bulldog pass at the Saint 37, and charged back down the left sideline for his fourth touchdown.

&uot;That was my best touchdown, because it happened on defense,&uot; he said of the interception. &uot;But I want to thank my offensive line for helping me out there.&uot;

The Bulldogs finally got on the board with 8:04 to play when Bill Brewer snuck through the right side of the Saint line for a 24-yard score. But Nate Fisher scooped up the ensuing onside kick for NSA, and Ryland Gwaltney, Ben Parmenter, Griffin Powell, Bo-bby Holland, and Tyler and Brock Van Selow shut down NA for the remainder of the contest.

Jett got the score back with five minutes to go when he took a pitchout from Jack Wright and weaved his way through the Bulldog defense for a 44-yard score.

&uot;Having experience and unity pushed our team to the title,&uot; said Holland, the Saint center. &uot;I hope I’m the best lineman on the varsity team next year.&uot;
