The families of Kristy Lynn Cornett and Steven Darrell Patton Jr. announce the engagement of their children.

Kristy is the daughter of Jack Cornett and Lynn Forehand, both formerly of Suffolk, and the granddaughter of Richard and Anne Forehand of Whaleyville, and Mr. and Mrs. James A. Cornett Sr. of Windsor.

Steven is the son of Steve and Beverly Patton of Suffolk, and the grandson of Bobby Patton of Louisa, Kay., and James and Patricia Rivord of Williamsburg.

Kristy and Steven graduated in 1997 from Lakeland High School. Kristy received her bachelor of arts degree in education from Ferrum College in May 2002, and is employed with Suffolk Public School, teaching at Lakeland High School. Steven received his associates degree in computer-aided drafting from ITT Technical Institute in December 1998, and is employed with Alliance Engineering and Lowe’s of Suffolk.

The wedding will be held Saturday, Oct. 18, 2002, in Whaleyville United Methodist Church, Suffolk.
