Because of the request from officials connected with the Toys for Tots and Suffolk News-Herald Cheer Fund programs, the latter will continue to accept donations for another two weeks.

A few organizations have called the office since the Christmas holidays and asked if it was too late to still make donations; therefore, the answer is no. You can continue to mail your tax-exempt contribution to the Suffolk News-Herald at 130 S. Saratoga St., Suffolk, Va. 23434. Make out your remittance to the Suffolk Cheer Fund and if you prefer not to mail it, you may bring it to the office between the hours of 8:30 a.m.-5

p.m. at the above address.

The goal of $37,151 was not met for the year 2002; however, the goal of 1,653 underprivileged children was met and the bill for toys purchased still has to be paid.

A total of $1,335 has been collected since the Christmas holidays bringing the total amount collected this year to $24,436.66. This amount puts us at $12,714.34 short of our goal, the biggest shortest throughout the years to date.

The majority of the community still did a tremendous job, and the committees and Suffolk News-Herald staff want to thank each donator no matter how large or small, early or late the contribution.
