Spencer Mayfield Sr., a former resident of Suffolk, died after a brief illness on Saturday, Jan. 11, 2003, in Nyack, N.Y.

The funeral took place Wednesday, Jan. 15 in Pilgrim Baptist Church, Nyack.

He had resided in Nyack for over 40 years. Born in Gates, N.C., he was a son of the late Roy and Lena Mayfield. He was the widower of Anna May Mayfield. He was predeceased by his brothers, David and Lee Mayfield.

He had retired from Rockland County as a construction worker in 1989.

He is survived by a daughter, Audrey Jordan of New York City; two sons, Spencer Mayfield Jr. (Dr. Carolyn S.) of Suffolk; and Spencer Lee Mayfield (Theaudry) of Nanuet, N.Y.; seven grandchildren, Sylvia Reid, Suffolk; Edward Lee Mayfield, Franklin; Kerrita Mayfield, Vancouver, Wash.; Karrin Mayfield, Lansdale, Pa.; Kellie Mayfield, Richmond; and Amber and Spencer Mayfield IV of Nanuet; and several great-grandchildren, neices, nephews, and cousins.
