A group of concerned Suffolk citizens led by Doris McNair recently held a &uot;Charity Social Event&uot; at the Suffolk Holiday Inn to honor Charles Brothers Jr., chief of the Whaleyville Volunteer Fire Department, and Sharon L. DeWitt, executive director of Suffolk Meals on Wheels Program.

The evening included dinner, dancing, a play, and the awarding of trophies to Brothers and DeWitt for the work they perform within the community, as well as presenting them with numerous checks for their organizations.

&uot; We, as a group of concerned citizens from various communities of the Hampton and South Hampton Roads area of Virginia, joyfully and faithfully wanted to donate our time and finances to the betterment of our community through the support of these two very worthy non-profit organizations,&uot; said McNair.

Her personal goal for the event was to help individuals realize that anyone anywhere can help in the community.

&uot; After all, it’s all about changing lives and these two organizations do that every day,&uot; she said.
