Retired Master Sgt. Haywood V. Corbitt of Hampton entered into eternal rest Thursday, Feb. 6, 2003. He was a native of Nansemond County, and a Hampton resident for 10 years.

He retired from the U.S. Air Force after 21 years of service and also worked for 10 years at the Sacramento Army Depot.

Preceded in death by his parents, James and Annie Corbitt, he leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Goldie M. Corbitt; three sons, Haywood V. Corbitt Jr. of Hampton; Vincent V. Corbitt (Debbie) of Lenexa, Kan.; and Darius C. Corbitt (Courtney) of Saramento, Calif.; one adopted son, Jeff Alexander (Ginger) of Sacramento; two grandchildren; two sisters, Shirley Freeman (Garris) of Suffolk; Annie Dildy of Baltimore, Md.; two sisters-in-law, Thelma Boone (Walter); Jacqueline Faulk (Landi) of Suffolk; one uncle, John Riddick of Suffolk; and several niece, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

The funeral will be conducted at noon Wednesday in First Baptist Church – Lincoln Park by Bishop Samuel L. Cutler, pastor. Interment with full military honors will be follow in Hampton National Cemetery, University side.

Mr. Corbitt will be placed in the church by 10 a.m. Wednesday.

Viewing will be from noon to 7 p.m. Tuesday in the Ronald C. Perkins Funeral Home Inc., 251 W. Queen St., Hampton.

Clinton M. Holland

Clinton M. Holland, 77, of 10425 Ellis Road, Suffolk, died Saturday, Feb. 8, 2003.

The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Mt. Sinai Baptist Church.

Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Laura Knight

Laura Knight of 537 Bellwood Road, Apt. 36, Newport News, died Tuesday, Feb. 4, 2003, in her residence.

She was a native of Suffolk.

She had been a bus monitor.

She was a member of Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witness, Big Bethel Road, Hampton.

Survivors include a daughter, Dreama Knight of Newport News; a son, Damone Knight of Newport News; her parents, William Pope and Annie Pope of Suffolk; three sisters, Carol Moody (Arthur) and Carliss David (Bruce), all of Portsmouth; Connie Harris (Alvester) of Newport News; brother, Joe Louis Pope Sr. of Suffolk; paternal grandmother, Betty Sue Pope of Suffolk; three grandchildren; and several other relatives and friends.

The memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witness, 625 Big Bethel Road, Hampton.

The family will assemble at 533 Bellwood Road No. 8, Newport News, and 1222 Coltrane Dr., Cavalier Manor.

After the service, the family and friends will meet at Windsor Court Community Center, 533 Bellwood Road.

Virginia L. Thomas

Mrs. Virginia Lee Thomas, 83, of 310 Hollywood Ave., Suffolk, died Thursday, Feb. 6, 2003, in her residence.

A native of Southampton County, she was the widow of Odell Mutt Thomas, and the daughter of Viola Parker Sykes.

She had retired from J.H. Miles.

She was a member of Piney Grove Baptist, Buckhorn section.

Survivors include one aunt, Maggie Knight of Portsmouth; two devoted nieces, Shirley Pugh and Angela Pugh, both of Suffolk; two devoted cousins, Mary Lee Chapman of Suffolk; Junious Parker of Franklin; and other relatives and friends.

The funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Monday in Rising St. James Holiness Church by the Rev. Larry Parker. Burial will be in Carver Memorial Cemetery.
