Clippers take two in a row to finish at number two

The Lake Kennedy Clippers won two games at Cradock Recreation Center in Portsmouth on Saturday, defeating Chesapeake 32-31 and Kempsville 58-35. The team used a 1-3-1 zone trap defense to defeat the Virginia Beach team. The Clippers ended the regular season 10-7 (4-2), ranked second in the Portsmouth Parks and Rec. winter league. The team will attempt to continue its success on Saturday when the playoffs begin at Cradock.

Parks and Rec. to hold gymnastics classes

Suffolk Parks and Recreation is offering gymnastics for children ages 4-10 years old. Children will learn floor routines, basic balance beam walks, jumps, kicks, and rolls. Classes will be offered at Mack Benn Recreation Center on Mondays beginning Feb. 24 through March 31 and Northern Shores Recreation Center on Tuesdays beginning March 4th through April 8th. The 4-6-year-old class is 6 to 7 p.m. and 7-10 year old class is 7 to 8 p.m. Registration deadline for Mack Benn is Feb. 20 and Northern Shores is February 28th. Lunchtime basketball being played at Birdsong

You can play pick up basketball during your lunchtime at Birdsong Recreation Center.

Adult basketball is 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday through Friday at Birdsong.

Valid Open Gym Membership or Health and Fitness Membership is required.

Membership is free to all city employees.

Parks and Rec. to hold ballet classes

Suffolk Parks and Recreation is offering ballet to children ages 3-8 years old. Children will learn the basic positions of ballet. The class will be offered Tuesdays and Thursdays, March 25 through April 24 at Mack Benn Recreation Center 1253 Nansemond Parkway.

The 3-5 year old class will be 6 to 7 p.m. and the 6-8 year old class will be 7 to 8 p.m.

Aerobics classes to begin at Birdsong

Join Betty Cartwright for a refreshing cardiovascular workout.

The use of hand weights and exercise bands help improve and strengthen muscles.

This class is great for anyone looking to stay active, healthy and in shape.

Classes are March 4 through April 10 and held on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Men’s spring softball league starting soon

The Suffolk Parks and Rec. Department is sponsoring a men’s spring slow-pitch softball league. Registration will be held from March 13 to April 11. The fee is $300 for resident teams and $330 for non-resident teams.

The first 16 teams registered will participate. Each team can have a maximum of 25 players, each of whom must be at least 18 years old.
