Melanie J. Mountcastle, 76, of 316 Webb St., Suffolk, died Saturday, Feb. 15, 2003, in Obici Hospital.

She was a daughter of the late William Mason and Maggie Haregrove Mason, and the widow of Willie Mountcastle.

Melanie attended the Sussex County Public Schools.

She was a homemaker.

She is survived by three daughters, Jeanette L. Sumlet (Derry) of Waverly; Edith Rogers-Ralph (Curtis) and Kimberly A. Mountcastle, both of Suffolk; one son, Ronald D. Montcastle of Suffolk; one sister, Janice E. Short of Suffolk; one brother, William Mason of Palm Spring, Md.; seven grandchildren; six great- grandchildren; two sisters-in-law; Henrietta Mason and Cora Mountcastle; a devoted caregiver, Marjorie Bullock; other cousins, relatives and friends.

The funeral will take place at 11 a.m. Wednesday in T.E. Cooke-Overton Funeral Home. Interment will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery.
