My Fellow Residents of the Fourth District of Virginia:

As we enter these difficult times for our nation, we realize that war is an option few of us would prefer, yet we realize the price of our inaction may be greater.

On the front lines of Operation Iraqi Freedom are American soldiers who are making tremendous sacrifices to defend and protect all Americans from a regime that has the real potential to use terrorist activities against the United States, or aid those who seek to destroy the freedom we hold so dear.

I have full faith in the capabilities of our U.S. and coalition forces to do what is necessary to disarm Iraq and end the regime of Saddam Hussein.

Now is the time for all Americans to focus on one thing – backing our U.S. forces.

Here in the Fourth District, families of soldiers serving overseas are watching and waiting to hear that their loved ones are safe. To you – the family members – my thoughts and prayers are with you during this most difficult time.

I have designated my senior advisor, Paul Gillis*, to serve as a Military Family Support Representative. Paul, an Army veteran and Purple Heart recipient, will serve as the contact for families who are seeking information about military personnel serving in Operation Iraqi Freedom. Families – please do not hesitate to contact Paul, or any member of my staff, with any questions you may have.

In addition, my congressional offices are staffed with representatives available to help all residents of the Fourth Congressional District. Please contact the office in your area for assistance with questions or concerns:

*Chesapeake – (757) 382-0080

Emporia – (434) 634-5575

Colonial Heights (804) 526-4969

Many Fourth District families of overseas military personnel are our friends, neighbors, co-workers, classmates, or members of our parishes, synagogues, or mosques.

Our encouragement for the service members and their families is very important during this most difficult time.

I thank all residents of the Commonwealth of Virginia for their continued support of our troops and their families.

May God continue to bless America.

Sincerely,

J. Randy Forbes

Member of Congress
