Congratulations to Nicole Lyons, a student at Nansemond River High School, who was recently elected as secretary of the Tidewater Region FBLA (Future Business Leaders of America). A total of 426 students from South Hampton Roads participated in the March 8 FBLA Spring Regional Conference held at Salem High School.

First-place winners from Suffolk included John Yeates Middle School in the American Enterprise project category: Alecia Toms of John Yeates Middle School in Career Manual I; Nicole Lyons of Lakeland High School in Career Manual II; and Michelle Pruitt of Nansemond River High School in Public Speaking I.

Second-place winners included Kenyelle Waters of John F. Kennedy Middle School in Career Manual I; Andrew O’Connor of Nansemond River High School in Economics; Miche’ Alston of John Yeates Middle School in FBLA Principles and Procedures; Parker Howell of Nansemond River High School in Introduction to Business; Tierre Butler of John Yeates Middle School in Introduction to Parliamentary Procedure; and Cieara Davis of Forest Glen Middle School in Public Speaking I.

Third-place winners included Kevin Howell of Lakeland High School in Business Calculations; Brittney Morris of John Yeates Middle School in Introduction to Business Communication; Martina Anderson and Theresa Menser of The Pruden Center for Industry and Technology in Multimedia Presentation; Robyn Mazzone of Lakeland High School in WebSite Development; Kate Rawls of Lakeland High School in Word Processing I; and Shaina Creeks, Nicole Phillip, Sarah Adams, and Latasha Wilson of John Yeates Middle School in Parliamentary Procedure.

In addition, congratulations to the FBLA organizations at both John F. Kennedy Middle School and John Yeates Middle School – which have again captured the No. 1 and the No. 2 spots as the largest middle school FBLA chapters in the Tidewater region, in Virginia

and in the nation.

The John F. Kennedy Middle School chapter has 137 members, and the John Yeates Middle School chapter has 135 members. FBLA is a co-curricular student organization in business education.
