Many knew her for her fine culinary skill while employed at the Horse Shoe Restaurant and the &uot;Lagoon Motel.&uot;

She was employed as cook for Nansemond County and Suffolk public school cafeterias, Girl Scout Council, Maryview Hospital, and other places.

She was a volunteer cook at DAV for several years, and she had a home cooking ministry whereby she cooked and fed those who were in need of food and clothing.

Alice was given the unofficial titles of lawyer and social worker because she was always able to help those in need.

She always knew which direction to send them for help. When they left her, they had what they needed or they knew where to turn to get help. She gave them hope when they had none.

The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, March 31 in St. Timothy Baptist Church, 1613 E. Washington St., by the Rev. Thomas Harden.
