Come camp it up this summer in Suffolk

Planet Recreation

The program is designed to meet the physical, creative and social needs of the participants in a fun-filled, exciting and safe environment.

There will be games, arts and crafts, and field trips!

This program is structured for school age children ages 6-12. Children must be 6 years old by the first day of the program to register and also enrolled in the first grade.

The camp begins at 7:30 a.m. and ends at 6 p.m.

Planet Recreation Sites are Northern Shores Recreation Center, Booker T. Washington Recreation Center, Mack Benn Recreation Center and Oakland Recreation Center. Northern Shores and Booker T. Washington run June 30 through Aug. 22 and Mack Benn and Oakland run June 23 through Aug. 22.

There is a one-time $20 registration fee and each two-week session will cost $40.

Outdoor Adventure Camp

Are you seeking an adventure? Are you willing to fly a remote controlled plane, catch a fish, and talk to real Native Americans? Well, the Outdoor Adventure Camp, at Lone Star Lakes Park, is right up your &uot;Nature Trail.&uot; This camp is designed to give children, ages 6-11 years old, an overview of different outdoor activities.

Participants are required to bring the following: rain gear, insect repellant, sunscreen and bag lunch. Children with special needs will need to speak with a supervisor prior to registration.

Camp is from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. the week of July 7-11.

The cost is $30 per child with a $10 sibling discount.

Before and after camp care is available at Oakland Recreation Center for an additional $20, space is limited. Registration will take place at Kings Fork Recreation Center and Birdsong Recreation Center. Proof of age is required at time of registration. Registration ends 6/20/03. Sign up early! Lamont Strothers Basketball Camp

Suffolk Parks and Recreation in collaboration with Mike Duman and Suffolk Native, Lamont Strothers, is offering children, ages 7-13 years old, the opportunity to receive basketball instruction from one of Virginia’s finest basketball players.

Your child will be put through various workouts, have their skills analyzed and enhanced, and receive information on athletics and education from former and current professional, college, and high school players.

The camp is from 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. June 16-20, at Kings Fork Recreation Center. The cost is $85 per child. Registration ends 6/6/03. For more information, call 923-2360.

Art Camp

During this one-week art camp, your child will participate in a different hands-on workshop each day from 10 a.m. to noon at the Suffolk Museum.

They will use a variety of art mediums and techniques while exploring their own creativity. For children ages 7-12 years old. Camp is the week of Aug. 4-8. Registration can be completed at the Suffolk Museum. The cost is $40 per child ($5 discount for Suffolk Art League members).
