Robert Crumpler hit a two-run homer and Todd Harrell batted in four runs and scored two more as Nansemond-Suffolk Academy charged to its second double-digit win in as many days Thursday, defeating host Hampton Roads Academy 21-2.

Bo Garner struck out seven in three innings for the Saints (8-7, 2-3), who will take on Lake Taylor at 10 a.m. Saturday at Western Branch in the finals of the McKinney tournament (the game was rained out last weekend).

Winslow makes hits, Little stops them in 6-0 win

Ashley Winslow had three hits and Jessica Little threw a five-strikeout one-hitter as Nanse-mond-Suffolk Academy defeated host Hampton Roads Academy 6-0 Thursday afternoon.

The Lady Saints (7-5, 3-0) will visit Norfolk Academy on Monday (their Saturday game against Charlotte-Latin was cancelled).

Suffolk goes 0-3 in tennis

Nate and Bart Grover won their respective singles matches and teamed for a doubles victory in Nansemond-Suffolk Academy’s 6-3 loss to host Hampton Roads Academy Thursday. The Saints (5-5, 2-2) will host Stonebridge today.

Both Suffolk public schools also fell Thursday, with Lakeland losing to Hickory 6-3 and Nansemond River to Great Bridge (final score unavailable). Lakeland will visit Ocean Lakes on Monday and River will host Oscar Smith on Tuesday.

Lakeland, NSA fall in soccer

It was a dismal day for Suffolk soccer on Thursday, as the Lakeland boys lost 7-1 and the girls 10-0 to host Great Bridge (Chris Joyce was the sole Lakeland scorer). The Cavaliers will host Nandua at 6:30 p.m. tonight, and the Lady Cavaliers visit Bruton on Monday.

Nansemond-Suffolk Academy’s girls fell 9-0 to host Hampton Roads Academy on Thursday, and will host Peninsula Catholic on Tuesday (today’s game against Charlotte-Latin was cancelled).

Makeup dates for Nansemond River’s games against Granby and Norview had not been announced at press time.

Wrestling legend to visit Suffolk today, tomorrow

Ivan Koloff, a former World Wrestling Federation champion, will be appearing at the Suffolk Wal-Mart at 1200 N. Main Street from 5 to 9 p.m. tonight and 1 to 9 p.m. Saturday evening on behalf of the Christian organization’s Children’s Miracle Network. Since retiring from professional wrestling (although he still works the occasional independent date), Koloff has worked with the organization to teach visitors about Jesus Christ.

Kickboxing champion Lewis to hold May 9 seminar

World kickboxing champion Joe Lewis will be appearing at Wayne Spencer’s tae kwon do class on May 9 at Triple T Gymnastics center at 619 E. Constance Rd. Lewis will be holding a kickboxing seminar for interested visitors. For those that register early, the cost is a non-refundable $25, with $20 for the spouse and $20 for children 12 and over. Branch golf tournament to be held May 2

The Inaugural Larry Branch Memorial Golf Tournament will be held Friday, May 2 at the Suffolk Golf Course with a shotgun start beginning at 1 p.m. The fee is $200 for a four-person team.

YMCA to hold lifeguarding classes

The Suffolk YMCA will be holding lifeguarding classes in May and June. The first class will be held on Fridays from May 2-30 from 3:30 to 8:30 p.m. The second class, designed for those finishing up the school year, will be held June 9-13.
