Principal announces bid for clerk’s post

Johnnie F. Edwards Jr. recently announced that he will be a candidate for the Suffolk Clerk of the Circuit Court position.
Edwards, 48, a Suffolk native, is employed at S.P. Morton Middle School in Franklin as an assistant principal. He has 28 years of experience in education including 21 years as an administrator. He has served as a teacher, assistant principal, principal, supervisor of student services, supervisor of planning, coordinator of pupil personnel and testing, an admissions counselor and as an assistant resident hall director for a private college.
Edwards is the president of the East Suffolk Federated Civic League, founder of the &uot;Just Say No&uot; co-ed Youth Softball and T-Ball League, a youth Pop Warner Football coach (ICAA), member of the Suffolk Substance Abuse and Youth Council and a past member of the Suffolk Industrial Development Authority.
He is the father of Yvette Edwards, a graduate student attending Virginia State University; Johnnie F. Edwards III, a senior attending Liberty University; and Janice R. Edwards, a freshman attending Norfolk State University.
Edwards and his children are all products of the Suffolk Public School System.
