SHS tennis team alumni play for culture’s sake

Players on Suffolk High School tennis teams from 1940 to 1990 were among the 45 people who participated in a recent tennis tournament to raise money to turn their alma mater into the Suffolk Center for Cultural Arts. People came from as far away as Atlanta and Washington, D.C., to participate in the round robin tournament held at Cedar Point Country Club. Players were also given an update on the cultural arts center’s progress was presented by SHS alumna, Barbara N. McPhail, and Suffolk Mayor E. Dana Dickens III. Sponsors included RE/MAX Across Town, Southern Oil Co. Inc., Duke Automotive, Corporation, BB&T, Morgan Stanley/Dean Witter, Head Racquet, Deer Valley Racquet Club, Baker’s Crust, Wilson Sports and Health and Wellness Management.
