Andy Rivenbark and Lauren Doughtie were named to the All-TCIS team as Nansemond-Suffolk Academy tied with Walsingham for second place in the TCIS season tournament Monday at Bide-A-Wee golf course in Portsmouth. Norfolk Collegiate won the event with a 317, defeating the Saints and Trojans by six strokes. Rivenbark’s 78 and Doughtie’s 79 were among the top 10 in the match, thus earning All-Conference honors.

&uot;It’s kind of bittersweet, because I didn’t play to my potential,&uot; said Doughtie, who missed All-TCIS honors by one stroke last season. &uot;I missed a lot of putts that I should have made, but you can’t always play like a champion.&uot; The Saints did plenty of that during the regular season, finishing with the conference’s top record at 14-3 (11-1).

Matt Stublen, the sole Saint senior to play on Monday, holed out with an 81. &uot;Considering the wind and everything, I don’t think I did too bad,&uot; said Stublen, who plans to attend East Carolina University.

At the other end of the age spectrum was eighth-grader Katie Murphy, making her TCIS tournament debut. &uot;It was kind of nerve-wracking at first, but near the end, it felt like I was just practicing with the other teams,&uot; said Murphy, who finished with an 84.

&uot;It’s tough for eighth-graders, especially girls, to make the varsity team, so all I wanted to do was get into a few matches this season, so I’m proud. I think I’ll get a couple of ‘medallists’ next season.&uot;
