The Southeastern Tidewater Opportunity Project Inc. (The STOP Organization) announces its new partnership with the Virginia Employment Commission (VEC) at its downtown Suffolk location.

Effective Monday, May 19, the full array of VEC’s services will be provided at the STOP Center for Employment Training (CET) location on 125 Tynes ST.

STOP’s CET Center has been providing services including on-site training in Certified nurse aide and medical transcriptionist, emergency services, and employment-seeking opportunities since July 2000.

VEC services are to include employer services, job placement assistance and job referral, as well as Internet access to file unemployment insurance claims.

The STOP Organization was created in1965 as the Community Action Agency to serve South Hampton Roads. A non-profit agency governed by a board of directors, STOP’s mission is to provide a range of services and activities that have quantifiable and potentially major impacts on the root causes of poverty.

STOP focuses its efforts in areas impeding the achievement of self-sufficiency among residents of South Hampton Roads.

Program areas identified for service delivery include employment, education, housing, emergency services, nutrition, and childcare.

STOP and VEC have always complement each other in their delivery of services. In the spirit of partnership and desire to provide better customer services in the community, both agencies are excited about this new endeavor.
