Benjamin Junior Umphlette, 74, a former restaurant owner, died June 18, 2003.

Born Oct. 18, 1928, in Gates County, N.C., he was the son of the late William Benjamin and Augustus Hortense Raby Umphlette. Mr. Umphlette was a member and the 1988 president of the Norfolk Shrine Club and a member of the Khedive Temple. He was an Army veteran of WWII.

Survivors include his sisters, Mary Louise Rollison of Franklin; Bettie Sue Rhea and her husband, Bobby of Richmond; and brother, Raby Umphlette and his wife, Martha, of Nags Head, N.C.

The funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at the graveside in Holly Lawn Cemetery by the Rev. Basil L. Ballard. The family will receive friends from 7-8 p.m. in the R.W. Baker & Co.
