Dr. T. Vaughn Walker, a professor at the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary and pastor of First Gethsemane Baptist Church in Louisville, Ky., is the guest minister at East End Baptist Church’s annual &uot;Come As You Are&uot; Revival that started Monday and runs through Friday.

Come as you are means just that – you don’t have to dress up to attend.

Mini concerts will begin the revival each night at 7 and the preaching service will start at 7:40 p.m.

Vaughn has been the senior pastor of First Gethsemane since 1984. The church has a membership of 1,900. He is the department chairman of Black Church Studies in the School of Theology at Women’s Missionary Union, professor of Christian Ministry and has been teaching at the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary since 1986. He was the first black tenured professor at the seminary and also the first black appointed in a regular professorship in the Southern Baptist Convention.

He holds a Ph.D. degree from Oregon State University, an M. Div/C.E. from the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, a M.S. degree from Eastern Illinois University and a B.S. degree from Hampton University.

He is a member of the Board of Trustees at Georgetown College, Georgetown, Ky.; moderator at Central District Baptist Association in Louisville; was dean at the Bluegrass State Baptist Convention and is past president of the Interdenominational Ministerial Coalition. He is also a member of the NAACP.

He and his wife Cheryl have three children.

Concerts for the week are as follows: Monday, was First Baptist choir; Tuesday, Elite; Wednesday, Prayer and Praise; Thursday, Gail and Marshe’ and Friday, J-Marv.

Monday night at 6. the congregation was treated to all the ice cream they could eat. On Wednesday, except it will be for all the hot dogs attendees can eat.

On Friday night there will be a Youth Lock-In at the YMCA on Godwin Boulevard immediately following the worship service for all East End youth aged 10 and above who attend at least three nights of the revival. Each East Ender may bring only one guest and each guest must attend at least two nights of the revival.

East End is located at 523 East Washington St.
