Verniqueca A. Williams

Verniqueca A. Williams has been selected for the Dean’s List for the spring semester at the University of North Carolina in Greensboro, N.C. She is a 2000 graduate of Nansemond River High School. Williams has also been accepted for an internship in clinical psychology in the fall of 2003. She is the daughter of Vernon and Deborah Williams and the granddaughter of Syvalius and Vernice Walston.

Johnson and Wales

Three students from Suffolk, Deborah Bredon, Lauranetta Hyman and Justin Ray, recently graduated from Johnson & Wales in Norfolk.

Kimberly M. Carr

Kimberly Mae Carr of Suffolk was named to the Dean’s List at Carson-Newman College in Jefferson City, Tenn.

William L. Chorey

William L. Chorey Jr. graduated recently from the University of Virginia with a Bachelor of Arts degree in political science. He was on the Dean’s List and was a varsity cheerleader, a trustee for this Class of 2003, and a founding member of the Phi Delta Theta Fraternity. Chorey is a 1999 graduate of Nansemond-Suffolk Academy and the son of Billy and Gloria Chorey of Suffolk.

Hampden-Sydney

Two students from Suffolk, Adam W. Burton and Donald Ross Green, graduated from Hampden-Sydney College in Hampden-Sydney recently. Burton earned a BS degree in biology and is a former graduate of Nansemond-Suffolk Academy. He is also the son of Dr. and Mrs. John W. Burton III.

Donald Ross Green graduated summa cum laude and earned a BA degree in political science. He is the son of Beverley G. Greene and grandson of the late Dr. and Mrs. Willard T. Greene, all of Suffolk. He is a former graduate of Nansemond River High School. He has also made the Dean’s List every semester for four years.

Barton College

Three students from Suffolk, Denise Renee Kellam, Mindi Jean Murray and Angelina Athena Roybal, all of Suffolk, recently graduated from Barton College in Wilson, N.C.

David A. Johnson

David Aaron Johnson, a native of Suffolk, recently graduated from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln University in Lincoln, Neb.

Joseph G. Konefal

Duke University in Durham, N.C. has named Joseph G. Konefal to its Dean’s List for the spring 2003 semester. Konefal is the son of Karen and John Joseph Konefal of Suffolk.

Mary K. Moore

Mary Katherine Moore was named to the Dean’s List for the Spring 2003 semester at Old Dominion University. Moore will attend Virginia Tech as a transfer student in the fall. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James A. Moore of Suffolk.

Stan M. Norfleet

Stan Maurice Norfleet, son of Mrs. Tavionne R. Norfleet and the late Cleophus S. Norfleet Jr., graduated from the University of Virginia, Charlottesville on Sunday, June 18 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in African-American Studies and a minor in history. Norfleet is the grandson of Cleophus and the Rev. Dr. Thelma T. Norfleet of Suffolk.

Chastity Owens

The United States Achievement Academy announced recently that Chastity Owens has been recognized for academic achievement as a United States National Honor Roll award winner. Owens is the daughter of Tirrell and Lisa Brown of Suffolk and the granddaughter of Dorothy Sharpe, Linda Mercer, and Charlie Sharp, all of Suffolk and Mr. and Mrs. Bruce and Carrie Bennett of Yonkers, N.Y.

John G. Rasberry

The United States Achievement Academy announced recently that John Granville Rasberry has been named to an All-American Scholar. To win this recognition the scholar must earn a 3.3 or higher GPA. His photo will appear in the All-American Scholar Yearbook which is published nationally. Rasberry attends Forest Glen Middle School and is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Mike Rasberry of Suffolk and the grandson of Kathryn Trudell of Asheboro, N.C. and Jasper L. Rasberry of Durham, N.C.

Amanda B. Strickland

Amanda Brett Strickland, recently was among 398 graduates at Davidson College in Davidson N.C. She is the daughter of R. and Mrs. Wyatt Davis of Harlan Dr., and a former graduate of Nansemond River High School.

Kristen M. Sherrick

The United States Achievement Academy announced recently that Kristen M. Sherrick of Suffolk has been recognized for academic achievement as a United States National Honor Roll Award winner. Sherrick attends Lakeland High School and will appear in the United States Achievement academy Official Yearbook which is published nationally. She is the daughter of

Miney and Dwane Sherrick and the granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph F. Jamison and Mr. and Mrs. Noah V. Sherrick Jr., all of Elida, Ohio and Mr. and Mrs. Larry White of Lynchburg, VA.

Virginia State University

Ten Suffolk students from Suffolk, were recognized at Virginia State University in Petersburg for their academic excellence during the Spring 2003 semester. They are Kaesha L. Britt, Makeda S. Brown, Quametris Q. Coles, Patrice K. Copeland, Latres T. Davis, Mario L. Faulk, Kathy A. Goodson, Sherress I. Jones, Naomi N. Malette, and Sara L. Sharpe.

Jeffrey S. Woodyard

Jeffrey Steven Woodyard received the Suffolk Credit Professionals International scholarship in the amount of $500.

An honor graduate of Nansemond-SuffolkAcademy, Woodyard is the son of Steven and Debra Woodyard of Suffolk.

While at NSA, he was active in the National Honor Society and Varsity Swimming, as well as the marching and concert bands. Woodyard was a peer counselor and belonged to the SADD Club. He volunteerd in the American Cancer Society Relay for Life, including an all-night swim for the Relay for Life and Swim for the Angels. Woodyard plans to study accountting at the College of Business at James Madison University.
