Mr. Jessie Owens, 78, of 504 Kissimmee Ave., Suffolk, died Sunday, July 6, 2003, in Obici Hospital.

A native of Southampton County, he was the son of the late Robert &uot;Bob&uot; Hill and Blanche Owens, and was the husband of Novella Owens.

He had retired from Ferguson Welder Company.

Survivors include his wife, Novella Owens of Suffolk; one son, Wilson Newby of Suffolk; one daughter, Margaret Clayborne; one sister, Hortense Henry of Baltimore, Md.; stepmother, Lucy Owens of Sedley, Va.; one sister-in-law, Ruth Golden of Suffolk; 11 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren, one great-great- grandchild; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.

The funeral will be held at noon Thursday, July 10, in New Paul Temple Holiness Church with Pastor Catherine Skinner officiating. Burial will be in Carver Memorial Cemetery.
