Senior citizens without prescription drug coverage may find assistance at Wal-Mart next week.

Representatives from the drug manufacturer, Pfizer Inc., will be at the two Suffolk Wal-Mart SuperCenter locations, 1200 N. Main St. and 6259 College Drive, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday, July 24 to help local low-income seniors apply for the Pfizer for Living Share Card program.

That program allows qualified Medicare beneficiaries to purchase up to a 30-day supply of most Pfizer prescription medicines for a flat fee of $15 per prescription.

The two companies are sponsoring Senior Brown Bag Day at Wal-Mart’s and Sam’s Clubs across Virginia and Washington, D.C.

Seniors should bring all their medications, their Medicare card and their most recent tax return or social security benefit verification statement.

Pharmacists at the store, together with trained community volunteers, will be on hand to help people determine if they are eligible for prescription assistance programs sponsored by several companies.

Seniors do not need to be Wal-Mart pharmacy or Sam’s Club members to participate.

Diana Willman, the pharmacy intern who organized the event at the downtown Suffolk Wal-Mart, is hoping for a good turnout.

&uot;We are anticipating a strong showing,&uot; Willman said.
