Staff report
Three mosquito pools in different parts of the city have tested positive for eastern equine encephalitis.
The three pools are located near the downtown and Wilroy Road areas, said Calvin Jones, the environmental health manager of the Suffolk Health Department. Each pool tested positive for the species of mosquito that is the primary carrier of EEE.
Both EEE and the West Nile virus are spread to birds, humans, horses and other mammals through the bite of an infected mosquito.
