Frank Deiny of Mechanics-ville moved out front on lap 54 and rolled on to his first win of the season in Late Model competition at the Southampton Motor Speedway on Friday night. He went neck-and-neck with Todd McFarland until lap seven, when Terry Allison overtook McFarland. Phil Warren then stayed with Deiny until Deiny surged ahead just before the start of lap 45, and Deiny won by 2.595 seconds (for the third consecutive week, the event ran caution-free).

&uot;I felt like I was (faster than Warren),&uot; Deiny said. &uot;I tried to let him see, too. I’d back off from him, then pull back on him. I was trying to drive him real clean. Me and Mark had a clean race and, then, me and Phil had a pretty good, clean race. I got that monkey off my back, I hadn’t won a race in eight months and it was starting to kill me.&uot;

Phil’s son Anthony won the Limited Late Model race. He started from the pole, at 91.139 mph, and wired the field for his second victory of the year. At the finish, he was a straightaway ahead of runner-up Steve Zuskin. The race was caution-free.

Robbie Parker led from pole to capture his second victory of the season. Preston Wheeler challenged several times, but Parker won by three lengths in a caution-free race.

In the night’s closest race, Stan Holmes held off Mason Temple to win by a kart’s length in the Mid-Atlantic Champ Kart race. Holmes took the lead on lap 19, linking up with Temple and drafting by George Dehner.
