The Salvation Army of Suffolk and Western Tidewater has found a solution – albeit a temporary one – to its eviction from a downtown warehouse.

Thanks to an anonymous benefactor, the organization is moving its thousands of donated items into a temporary warehouse facility, said Capt. David R. May, the leader of the organization’s local office.

But the charity is still seeking a permanent storage location that has a loading dock and approximately 15,000- to 20,000-square feet of storage space, May said. The charity is hoping for a rent-free facility, he added.

The Salvation Army’s former storage facility, located at the intersection of Hall Avenue and Morgan Street, was recently purchased by the city. The former packing plant owned by Fairmont Snacks will be razed to make way for the city’s new Fairgrounds community.
