The jamboree is designed to draw neighborhoods together, especially the community’s churches and their respective congregations.

&uot;We have been given a vision to reach out to the world with the love of God,&uot; said Marcella Parker, a CGYM youth leader.

The church’s mission is to give purpose and meaning to the lives of children in Suffolk and surrounding communities, said Youth Pastor Robert Brown.

&uot;We want to teach them to see themselves as the future of our community,&uot; said Pastor Brown. &uot;As youth, we are not waiting for the torch to be passed.

&uot;Instead, we have lit our own torches and we are going forth.&uot;

The jamboree is one of several activities now under way within the CGYM. The organization is hoping to reach out to all the city’s youth, regardless of their religious or ethnic backgrounds.

&uot;We have ongoing activities and we meet Tuesday nights at 7:30 p.m. at Love Center Family Church,&uot; said Parker. &uot;We have a movie night and Operation Teen Take-Over, a talk show.

&uot;We also have &uot;passion night,&uot; when kids can come and release their hearts and minds to the Lord in an intimate relationship.&uot;
