Columnist retires from active duty

Coast Guard Lieutenant Commander Joe DiRenzo (second from left), Driver resident and Suffolk News-Herald boating columnist, recently retired from active duty at a ceremony held at Portsmouth’s waterfront. DiRenzo, a Naval Academy and Naval War College graduate, was most recently Coast Guard Atlantic Area’s Anti-Terrorism coordinator for the past three years. He was responsible for Coast Guard anti-terrorism efforts in 40 states and the Caribbean. He had previously commanded the Coast Guard cutter JEFFERSON ISLAND (WPB 1340), served as chief of intelligence in Coast Guard Greater Antilles Section, San Juan, Puerto Rico, and was the Coast Guard liaison to the Navy’s Carrier Strike Group deployed to the Arabian Gulf.
