When meeting earlier this week to plan for Isabel’s arrival today, our printer urged us to print our Friday paper on Wednesday night to be sure we were able to put a paper on the street. We do not have a press in Suffolk and have to print our paper elsewhere.

It could be a situation where power is out or roads are blocked by trees so that we cannot get the paper back to Suffolk.

We decided that rather than have a Friday paper that is not relevant to our readers – one that includes coverage of Isabel hitting Suffolk – we would as well not have one at all.

We plan on holding off putting Friday’s paper to bed as long as we can. As a result, there’s a chance we may not publish at all. We have made alternative plans to print Friday’s paper at newspapers from Franklin to Hopewell, but there’s a chance that they won’t be able to field press crews on Thursday night.

In that event, we may not be able to print Friday’s paper until Friday morning, in which case many people may not receive it.

We are apologizing in advance for any inconvenience. While we intend to do everything possible to get an up-to-date newspaper to you on Friday, the News-Herald is at the mercy of Mother Nature – as are we all.
