VIRGINIA BEACH – Dr. Nicholas James Manos, a retired dentist, died Thursday, Oct. 16, 2003, in Sentara Virginia Beach General Hospital. He was the son of the late Gus James Manos and Katina Diamandis Manos.

Nick graduated from Suffolk High School where he excelled in all sports.

He was an Army veteran of World War II.

Dr. Manos was a graduate of the University of Virginia and the Medical College of Virginia School of Dentistry. He was a member of the American Dental Association, the Virginia Beach Dental Association, a lifetime member of the M.C.V. Alumni, Association, and the Richmond Jazz Society.

Dr. Manos was in private practice in Richmond for several years after which he was associated with the state Health Department of Virginia as the dental director for the Henrico County Health Department.

In 1983, as a member of the Virginia Public Health and Preventive Medicine Delegation, Dr. Manos toured the Soviet Union and China. He retired in 1984 and moved to Virginia Beach in 1990.

Nick’s other devoted interest was music. He was an outstanding percussionist and drummer, known throughout the Tidewater and Richmond areas. He played with some well-known groups and will be remembered for his great love of music.

He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 48 years, Agnes Carma Marie Manos; a sister, Mary Manos Damiani, and her husband, Andy, of Suffolk; many loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and lifelong friends; and his beloved pets, Socky and Midnight.

The memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Monday in Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Lynnhaven Chapel.

Interment will follow at 3 p.m. in Holly Lawn Cemetery, Suffolk.

Visitation will be one hour prior to the service from noon to 1 p.m.
