Karoy Smith

Karoy Smith, 78, of 2701 East Washington St., Suffolk slipped peacefully into the hands of the Lord on Sunday, Oct. 25, 2003. He was born to the late James and Jane Anna Smith in Martin County, N.C. on March 2, 1925.

He had retired as an electrician from the Norfolk Naval Shipyard Portsmouth after 33 years of honorable service.

He spent from Nov. 2, 1942 to Jan. 12, 1946 in the U.S. Army, and received the Asiatic Pacific Theater Campaign Medal with one Bronze Service Star, Good Conduct Medal AR 600-68, and a Victory Medal before being honorably discharged.

Karoy is survived by his devoted wife of 52 years, Anna M. Ridley Smith; two lovely daughters, Sharon L. Higgs and Cynthia R. Stuckey (Perry) of Portsmouth; three grandchildren, Derrick Higgs, Chantney Stuckey and Cydnee Stuckey; one brother-in-law, Lloyd Ridley of Long Island, N.Y.; one sister-in-law, Ann Smith of Hartford, Conn.; also many wonderful nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

The family expresses gratitude and great adoration to the staff of Golden Corral of Chesapeake Square and to the medical, pastoral, nursing, EMT, Emergency Room and Progressive Care staff at Maryview Medical Center.

The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 1, in Popular Run Baptist Church, Bennetts Pasture Road with Pastor James A. Williams Jr. officiating. Military honors will be at the graveside in Carver Cemetery.
